About Stella

Why we exist

STEM Learning Labs (Stella) is a nonprofit of engineers who want students to meet engineering before college, not only in a university classroom later on.

We focus on hands-on, team-based projects: students design, build, and test together, the way engineering work actually happens. The goal is for skills to stick because they were practiced, not just explained.

Our curriculum connects classroom learning with how engineering shows up in research and industry, without turning school into a job pitch. Students get a clearer sense of what engineering is and whether it might be a path they care about.

We work with schools, nonprofits, and other partner programs, and we support mentorship where it helps. Partners who need extra teaching support can also use our instructor network.

We started Stella because we wished we had gotten to build things sooner. Now we are trying to make that path easier for students and the people who teach them.
